Talking Fishing with Kayak Angler
Aug 12, 2010
We recently expanded our kayak fishing pro staff and launched a new fishing forum. Kayak Angler cast a line to Project Manager Shane Steffen and Marketing Manager Craig Ray to find out what's biting.
Here is an excerpt from the interview:
Kayak Angler: We noticed a number of interesting changes at Wildy. Not long ago you announced a new fishing team line-up. Now WS is launching a kayak fishing forum.
Shane Steffen: Thanks for noticing! There is some serious momentum at Wilderness Systems right now. In a nutshell, we’re focused on growing the sport. First, we’re listening to anglers and delivering product they want and need – in the spirit and unsurpassed quality Wilderness Systems is known for. Second, we’re focused on growing the kayak fishing community, by supporting the already passionate core anglers and welcoming people new to the activity. We’re doing this by: expanding our pro staff and ensuring a solid, accessible presence at events across the US (some in Canada, too!), sponsoring regional tournaments, and diversifying our online communities and forums to focus solely on kayak fishing and welcoming newcomers.
Craig Ray: A key component of our online strategy is offering community platforms with the look and feel anglers are used to in addition to providing the types of content they want to see. This strategy was developed in direct coordination with our pro fishing staff on not just what we wanted to offer, but what they heard anglers wanted to see. The growth was so strong and happened so quickly we were actually taken by surprise, which is really exciting as we look to build on this success for the coming year.
