Dave Easton
Dave has spent the last 15 years kayak fishing in the heart of Southern
California. He is flanked by the harbor and Pacific Ocean with Mission
Bay just a few miles north of his Point Loma home.
The Nationwide Insurance litigation consultant uses his Tarpon 160 to
chase his favorite species – the white sea bass. He has caught these
beasts up to 60 pounds and regularly wins or finishes near the top of
area tournaments. Among his most notable accomplishments are wins in
2005 and 2006 for the popular Plastic Navy Tournament Trail along with
a 2nd in the 2009 event.
DOB: 8-3-1955 Niagara Falls New York
State/Hometown: San Diego, California last 34 years
Favorite Wilderness Systems Kayak: Tarpon160
Must-Have Accessory or Gear: A good paddle - AT Fish Stix
Favorite Place to Fish: La Jolla, Ca.
Favorite Species to Fish: White Seabass-Yellowtail-Calico Bass
Favorite Bait/Lure: Live Squid Blue and white 6x Salas (iron with treble hook) for yellowtail and White sea bass and leadhead ¾ oz 5 inch plastic swim bait baitfish colors for Sand Bass and Calico Bass and Fire tiger ¾ oz Spinner bait for Spotted Bay Bass.
Why Dave Loves Kayak Fishing: Solitude and freedom to go when I want (if wife says OK) and come in when I want. Launching just about any where there is water. Good exercise and no pollution. Cost is relatively low once you are set up. California has unlimited opportunity and Baja Mexico (I can see well into Mexico from my driveway) is an amazing destination for Kayak fishing.
Media: Dave is involved in numerous sites on the West Coast perhaps the biggest two at this point are bigwatersedge.com (offshore and nearshore) and kayakfishingaddicts.com (bays and bassfishing).
