Dean Thomas
Capt. Dean Thomas is the owner and operator of Slowride Guide Services. Along with his wife, Jennifer, he guides and outfits over 500 kayak fishing trips yearly on the middle Texas Coast. He manages to stay active in conservation projects and the community. As a Boy Scout leader for 10 years, he confesses that the best part of his job is mentoring youth in outdoors. Both of his sons are Eagle scouts.
Dean prefers the speed and comfort of the Tarpon 160 for covering long distances, with the Tarpon 140 in close second because of its improved maneuverability. Dean specializes in searching vast shallow grass flats for schools of red drum and speckled trout. He chases multiple species year-round in the flats and tidal estuaries, switching his focus to passes and the beach front for King Mackerel, Jacks, Tarpon and others for the mid-summer months.
When asked why he loves kayak fishing, he said, "there is just something about the feeling you get when paddling up to a
school of tailing fish in crystal clear super shallow water that I
can’t get in any other boat."
